ELDON ? The New London girls? basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday night, topping Cardinal 49-40 in SEISC South Division play.
The Tiger defense shut the Comets down in the first quarter. New London outscored Cardinal 11-4 in the opening period and never looked back, leaving 30-20 at halftime and 45-31 after three quarters.
Cardinal was only able to win the fourth quarter, 9-5, to cut the New London lead down to single digits, but the damage had already been done and the Tigers walked out with a road victory.
Sydni Coleman led New London with 15 points in the win. She also dished out a team-leading five assists. Alexa Wenger had a monster day as well, finishing with 14 points, 20 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Laney Loyd had seven points and three steals in the win. Kristen Rohdy had four points. Kara Krieger finished with three. Savannah Sutherland, Marah Hartrick and Peyton Jackson all had two points each.
New London moved to 1-5 with the win. They will be back at home on Friday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m., when they play host to Central Lee.
