Mt. Pleasant Schools hires construction manager for elementary air conditioning project

The Mt. Pleasant Community School District now has someone at the helm of the upcoming phase two of the elementary air conditioning project, as the school board approved a contract with Woodruff Construction during Monday night?s meeting.


The contract with Woodruff Construction was approved for $136,900. The construction manager will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling the various construction companies that will work on the project across all four elementary buildings.


The nearly $2.5 million project will have a strict timeline for completion as the work cannot be done while students are in class. Woodruff Construction has already gotten the ball rolling as they have completed bid packages for the various components of the project, which can now be distributed to interested construction companies as board members approved bid letting as well Monday night.


Henriksen said Woodruff has set it up so there is one bid for the general construction for all four buildings. There also will be one bid package for the controls at all four buildings. ?Mechanical, which is going to be a big part of this, there is going to be a bid for each of the four buildings. The contractor would then indicate how many of the four buildings they could support,? Henriksen said, adding the same would be done for the electrical bid.


A pre-bid meeting will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, at the High School media center. There is no school that day for students so contractors can take a look at the buildings. A second pre-bid meeting will be held on Feb. 2, at 2 p.m., at Van Allen. Bids will be due on Thursday, Feb. 8.


The school board also set a public hearing for the project for Monday, Feb. 12, at 6:25 p.m. at the High School media center.
