Mt. Pleasant girls wrap up tennis season

FAIRFIELD ? The season came to an end for the Mt. Pleasant girls? tennis team on Wednesday in Fairfield. The Panthers competed in the Class 1A Region 7 individual and doubles tournaments. Mt. Pleasant failed to move any players further in the postseason.

Quin Whaley and Erin Zihlman competed in the singles tournament. Whaley faced off against Lauren DiJulio of Davenport Assumption, falling 6-2 and 6-3. Zihlman took on Yana Gaskell of Fairfield, dropping that match 6-1 and 6-0.

Hallie Sandeen and Shaleen Thiengmany competed in the doubles tournament and faced the Ft. Madison squad of Larissa Ferrill and Kearstyn Johnson. The Bloodhounds took out the Panthers 6-0 and 6-0.

Sierra Barton and Breeana Runyon competed in doubles action. That team fell 6-1 and 6-1 against the West Burlington-Notre Dame squad of Riley Brueck and McKenzie Fry.

The Panther girls are the first Panther spring sports team to finish up their season. The boys? team will be fighting for their spot at state on Saturday in Pella.
