DANVILLE ? The Mt. Pleasant softball team swept Danville on Saturday morning in a non-conference doubleheader. The Panthers owned game one 5-3 and took game two 6-4.
The Panthers scored the first five runs in game one. The Bears added three runs in the sixth inning but Mt. Pleasant shut the door in the seventh.
Keelyn McNamee was 1-3 with two RBIs in the win. Chi Glaha went 2-4 with a double and a stolen base. Savana Walls went 2-3 with a double. Anni Liechty was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Lyndi Vantiger went 1-3 with a double. Makayla Cam and Hannah Newman each knocked in one run.
Liechty threw a complete game in the circle. She gave up just three unearned runs on five hits and five walks in her seven innings of work. Liechty finished the game with nine strikeouts.
Mt. Pleasant won a back-and-forth game two. Mt. Pleasant took a 3-0 lead after 1.5 innings. Danville cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second. Both teams added two more runs over the next two innings to make it 5-4. The Panthers added one insurance run in the top of the sixth.
Cam hit her first home run of the season, a solo shot. She finished 2-4 with an RBI. Glaha went 2-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Liechty went 2-4 with an RBI.
Elli Liechty started her first varsity game of the year, going 1-2 with a double and an RBI. Trinity Krabill finished the game 1-3 with one RBI of her own.
Newman and McNamee both saw action in the circle in game two. Newman picked up the win, going four innings and giving up four earned runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out one batter. McNamee threw three shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out three.
