Mt. Pleasant freshman basketball teams fall to New London at home

The Mt. Pleasant freshman basketball teams took on New London on Monday night in their first doubleheader of the year.

The Tigers topped the hosting Panthers in both games. New London?s freshman/sophomore team won the boys? game 49-29. The Tiger girls? JV team took down the Mt. Pleasant freshman/sophomore girls? team 36-32.

The boys? game was back and forth in the first half. Mt. Pleasant held a 9-7 lead after one period but New London took the advantage in the second quarter and led 20-19 at the half.

The Tigers held Mt. Pleasant to four points in the third quarter, leading 36-24 with just one period to go. The Panthers scored just five points once again in the fourth quarter, allowing New London to pull away.

The boys? team was led by Jack Johnson, who scored 16 points. Chase Williamson and Sawyer Carrasco scored four points apiece. Tyson Sycouchah finished with three points and Avery Scandridge scored two.

The girls? team had an even scoring night in their loss. Elli Liechty, Emma Rugg and Lydia Stewart each had six points. Emma Huckabone scored five. Avery Sutter had four. Lexi Magnani scored three, and Ryann Davidson finished with two.

Both freshman teams will be back at home tonight (Thursday), when they host Central Lee. The freshman girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the freshman boys.
