A power outage that swept across Mt. Pleasant Friday morning was quickly resolved after Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities experienced a mechanical failure at the Lincoln Substation.
Crews quickly responded to reports of the power outage April 13, at 7:43 a.m., and power was restored in 12 minutes.
Mt. Pleasant Utilities General Manager Jack Hedgecock said that the outage was due to programming on their generation upgrade project in the plant this morning. As one of the engineers was doing programming as part of the upgrade, protective relays in the Lincoln Substation ?didn?t like the signals,? Hedgecock said. ?They reacted to it and tripped out.?
The power outage occurred on the northwest end of town, through the square and extended past Papa George?s Pizza and Steak on W. Monroe St.
Hedgecock said that quickly after the power went out, he received a call from the Jefferson St. construction foreman concerned they hit something in the square, knocking out the power. Hedgecock assured that the power outage had nothing to do with Jefferson St. construction.
?We apologize for the inconvenience,? Hedgecock said.
