KEOKUK ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? tennis team picked up a Southeast Conference road victory on Tuesday night, defeating Keokuk 6-3 on their own home courts.
The Panthers won the meet despite falling in the top two singles matches. Ethan Weber dropped the No. 1 match 6-3 and 6-1 to Keokuk?s Gavin Haner, and Corbin fell in a tight No. 2 match 2-6, 7-5, 1-0(11), to Abbot Haner, but the other four singles players won.
Jaxon Hoyle won 6-3 and 6-0 over Callum Tackes in the No. 3 match. Elijah Plooster took out Kaiden Stoneking 6-3 and 6-3 in the No. 4 match. Jack Schimmelpfennig picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win in the No. 5 match over Jared Evans, and Donny Arledge grinded out a win in the No. 6 match, taking it 2-6, 6-2, 1-0(7) over Stephen Callier.
The Panthers wrapped up the win in doubles play, going 2-1. The No. 2 squad of Weber and Schimmelpfennig won 6-1 and 6-0 over Hackes and Stoneking, and the No. 3 team of Plooster and Arledge won 6-3 and 6-1 over Evans and Callier.
The only doubles loss for Mt. Pleasant came in a nail-biting No. 1 match. Broeker and Hoyle fell 4-6, 6-1, 1-0(5) to G. Haner and A. Haner.
Clayton Henriksen and Cole Kelgord competed in junior varsity competition for Mt. Pleasant. Henriksen won 8-0 and Kelgord came out on top 8-2. They also took a doubles victory, winning 6-1 and 6-1.
The boys? tennis team will be in Fairfield tomorrow (Thursday) to take on Maharishi. That match will begin at 4:30 p.m.
