Mt. Pleasant boys? tennis team falls at Maharishi, Notre Dame

BURLINGTON ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? tennis team had quite the challenge this weekend as they hit the road to play Fairfield Maharishi on Thursday, May 3, and West Burlington-Notre Dame on Friday, May 4. The Panthers were able to win just one match in each, falling 8-1 to both.

Mt. Peeasant went winless in singles play on Thursday. Ethan Weber fell in the No. 1 game 6-1 and 6-1. Corbin Broeker fell in the No. 2 match 6-1 and 6-3. Jaxon Hoyle fell 6-0 and 6-0 in the no. 3 match.

Elijah Plooster fell 6-4 and 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. No. 5 Jack Schimmelpfennig was defeated 6-1 and 6-1, and Donny Arledge fell 6-1 and 6-2 in the No. 6 match.

Weber and Hoyle teamed up for the No. 1 singles match, falling 6-1 and 6-0. Broeker and Schimmelpfennig lost 6-3 and 6-1 in the No. 2 match. The only win of the day went to the team of Plooster and Arledge, which took the No. 3 doubles match 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(10).

David Nguyen and Cole Kelgord each picked up a victory in junior varsity action. Nguyen won 8-6 and Kelgord won 8-3. Clayton Henriksen lost a tough JV match 8-7(2). Nguyen and Kelgord also won in doubles, 6-2.

On Friday, Weber was the lone winner, dominating the No. 1 singles match 8-0. Broeker fell in the No. 2 match, 8-4. No. 3 Hoyle dropped his match 8-3.

Plooster lost 8-1 in the No. 4 singles match. Schimmelpfennig fell 8-0 in the No. 5 match and Arledge dropped the No. 6 match 8-4.

WB-ND swept Mt. Pleasant in doubles play. Broeker and Hoyle fell 8-1 in the No. 1 match. Weber and Schimmelpfennig dropped the No. 2 match 8-4, and Plooster and Arledge lost 8-4 in the No. 6 match.

Kelgord and Henriksen won their junior varsity doubles match 8-5. Henriksen won a JV singles match 8-4 and Henriksen fell 8-5.
