MPCHS student plays St. Lucia at Swedish Heritage Museum

The annual Swedish St. Lucia celebration was enjoyed at the Swedish Heritage Museum in Swedesburg on Monday, Dec. 11.

The evening dinner was followed by a program led by Jane Wickham, Betty Molander and Janice Peterson.

After dinner, the lights were dimmed and Lucia entered wearing the traditional white robe, red sash and a crown of lighted candles. She distributed cookies to all who were present while the Swedish song Sankta Lucia played in the background.

Lucia was portrayed by Hallie Sandeen, who is a junior in Mt. Pleasant Community High School. Sandeen is the daughter of Ralph and Cherry Sandeen and the great-great granddaughter of Charles and Josephine Sandeen who came to the Swedesburg area from Sweden in the late 1800s. Other family that joined the celebration included Sandeen?s grandparents and aunt.
