MP track and field host home relays

Mt. Pleasant held its first home track and field meet of the year on Thursday night, hosting a handful of Eastern Iowa teams from Classes 2A-4A. The Panthers won seven events on the night, with the boys? team winning five of them.

The best result of the day came in the boys? 110-meter high hurdles. Jake Lowe took first in 14.90 seconds. Cole Burns took first in 15.21 seconds, and Chase Lamm was third in 15.38 seconds.

Both shuttle hurdle relay teams picked up victories. The boys? team of Konnor Peterson, Lamm, Burns and Lowe finished first in 59.10 seconds, and the girls? team of Maddie Williamson, Karsyn Lamm, Kalynn Batey and Serenity Keomanivong took gold in 1:11.05.

Keegan Rich and Rylan Seberg went one-two in the boys? long jump. Rich won with a leap of 21-02.75, and Seberg took second with a 20-00. Lexie Magnani won the girls? shot put competition with a throw of 35-08.50. Grace Bittle took third in that event, throwing 33-09.25.

Three of the boys? relay teams won. The 4X200 team of Rich, Tate Shull, Seberg and William Copeland won in 1:34.10. The 4X100 team of Khang Truong, Burns, Rich and Lamm took first in 45.17 seconds.

The Panthers had three second-place finishes. Cody Mertens placed second in the 1600-meter run, finishing in 4:38.50. Tristan took second in the boys? discus with a throw of 136-05, and Keomanivong was second in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.14 seconds.

There were plenty of third place finishes for the Panthers, including two in the 800-meter runs. Maggie Jennings was third in the girls? 800, finishing in 2:38.69. Jacob Stukerjurgen finished third in the boys? 800, crossing the tape in 2:07.

Taylor Murray had a third-place finish in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 5:21.02. Kendall Dascher was third in the girls? 400-meter dash, crossing in 1:07.78. Lyndi Vantiger took third in the long jump with a leap of 15-09.75.

Three relay teams took third for Mt. Pleasant. The girls? 4X800 team of Murray, Jennings, Cristina Carthey and Delaney McDowell took bronze in 10:18.12. The girls? 4X100 team of Dani Broeker, Batey, Vantiger and Sutter placed third in 53.73 seconds, and the boys? 4X400 team of Lamm, Copeland, Shull and Seberg finished third in 3:37.41.

The boys? team will be back on the road on Tuesday, April 3 when they run at Mediapolis. The girls will have a week-long break before both teams run in Washington on Thursday, April 5.
