IOWA CITY ? The Mt. Pleasant softball team was at the Iowa Hawkeye Softball Complex in Iowa City over the weekend for the University of Iowa Classic. The Panthers dropped four games, all against teams from Class 5A.
The Panthers lost 11-0 against Davenport West and 8-0 against Bettendorf on Friday. On Saturday, Mt. Pleasant fell 11-1 to Muscatine and dropped a tight 8-7 game to Iowa City West to close out the weekend.
Davenport West scored four runs in the first inning, three in the third and four in the fourth in their 11-run win over MP. The Panthers collected just there hits in the loss.
Lyndi Vantiger had a nice game despite the result. She went 2-2 with two singles. Savana Walls was 1-2. Hannah Newman took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 runs (four earned) on 12 hits and two walks, while striking out one batter over four innings of work.
Bettendorf scored two in the first, one in the second and five in the fourth in their showdown with the Panthers. Chi Glaha was 3-3 with a triple and Vantiger went 1-2.
Keelyn McNamee was on the mound against Bettendorf. She threw all six innings, giving up eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits and one walk, while striking out one batter.
On Saturday, Trinity Krabill started the day off with an RBI single against Muscatine, knocking in Glaha to make it 1-0. Muscatine scoerd the next 11 runs, however, plating one in the bottom of the first, three in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth.
Glaha was 2-2 with a stolen base and a run scored int he loss. Krabill went 1-3 with an RBI. McNamee took the loss on the mound, throwing four innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits. Newman came in for two-thirds of an inning, giving up six earned runs in the process.
The Panthers were finally able to let their offense loose in the Iowa City West game. The Trojans scored the first five runs of the game, but Mt. Pleasant plated two in the third to cut the lead to 5-2. IC West stretched the lead with a run in the bottom of the third, but Mt. Pleasant scored four in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 6-6.
IC West pushed one across in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mt. Pleasant tied the game back up at 7-7 in the top of the sixth, but the Trojans plated the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Glaha stayed hot, going 4-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored. Makayla Cam went 3-4 with two RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored.
Krabill had a nice game as well, going 2-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Elli Liechty went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Ava Lowery went 2-3.
Glaha started the game, throwing two innings and giving up five runs (four earned). McNamee was tagged with the loss, throwing three and two-thirds innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out two batters.
