BLOOMFIELD ? The Mt. Pleasant softball team went 1-2 at the Davis County tournament on Tuesday. The Panthers fell 7-2 to No. 6 (3A) Albia and 19-5(5) to No. 5 (3A) Eddyville-Blakesburg, but took down the hosting Mustangs 3-2.
Albia held a 2-0 lead through four innings after a two-run bottom of the third. Mt. Pleasant tied the game with a two-run top of the fifth, but the Blue Demons scored four in their half of the fifth and one in the sixth to win by five.
Chi Glaha went 3-3 with an RBI in the win. Lyndi Vantiger went 2-3 and Makayla Cam was 1-3 with an RBI. Elli Liechty went 1-1 with a double and a run scored. Savana Walls went 1-3 and Tuesday Krabill scored one run as a pinch-runner.
Keelyn McNamee started the game in the circle and picked up the loss, throwing five innings and giving up six runs (three earned) on 11 hits, while striking out one batter. Glaha gave up one earned run in relief.
The Panthers were tied 5-5 after 3.5 innings against Eddyville-Blakesburg after tying the contest up with a three-run fourth inning. The undefeated Rockets exploded in the next two innings, however, scoring five runs in the fourth and nine in the fifth to end the game in five.
Glaha went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in the loss. Cam was 2-2 with a double and two RBIs. Vantiger went 2-3 with a run scord, and both McNamee and Walls picked up one hit.
Anni Liechty took the loss, giving up 15 runs (11 earned) on 15 hits and two walks over four and one-thirds innings of work. She struck out two batters. Hannah Newsman appeared in relief, giving up four runs (three earned) over two-thirds of an inning.
In the Davis County win, the Panthers and Mustangs scored one run each in the first and one more run each in the fourth. Mt. Pleasant scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning and held on for the 3-2 victory.
Glaha continued to dominate at the plate, going 3-4 with an RBI, a run scored and three stolen bases. Ava Lowery was 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Cam went 2-3 with an RBI and Vantiger went 1-3 with an RBI.
Walls, A. Liechty, Trinity Krabill and E. Liechty each had one hit in the win. Walls also scored one run.
A. Liechty had a nice outing in the circle. She threw a complete game, giving up two earned runs on seven hits and one walk over her seven innings of work. She struck out six Mustangs in the victory.
The Panthers went to 6-9 with the loss. They?ll host 15th-ranked New London (1A) tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. The Tigers are coming off a dominant 10-1 win over Van Buren on Tuesday night.
