A Mt. Pleasant man was arrested and charged with burglary and drug possession following a lengthy investigation by the Henry County Sheriff?s Department.
David Mertens, 39, was arrested on Nov. 28, after the Henry County Sheriff?s Office executed a search warrant at 701 W. Henry Street, in Mt. Pleasant. According to police reports, the search warrant was part of an ongoing, lengthy investigation of multiple burglaries. Upon executing the search warrant, illegal narcotics and stolen property were recovered.
Mertens was arrested and charged with Theft second degree-Possession of Stolen Porperty, a Class D felony; Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent of Deliver, Class C felony; Possession of Marijuana ? third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony, Burglary third degree by Aiding and Abetting, Class D felony; Possession of Synthetics, a serious misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, simple misdemeanor.
The Sheriff?s Office was assisted in the investigation and execution of the search warrant by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the New London Police Department.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
