The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade girls? basketball teams picked up three straight wins over Ottumwa on Friday night. The ?A? team won 20-13, the ?B? team dominated 37-6, and the ?C? team grinded out an 18-16 win.
The ?A? team was tied 4-4 after the first quarter but the Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 8-2 in the second quarter to take a 12-6 lead into halftime.
Mt. Pleasant held the lead throughout the second half and walked away with a seven-point victory to move to 2-0 on the year.
Ava Lowery led the Panther ?A? team with nine points in the win. Jenna Gilmore scored seven points and Thanh Phung finished with four.
The ?B? game was all Mt. Pleasant. The Panthers won the first period 19-2 and the second period 18-4 to win the game by 31 points and move to 2-0 as well.
Sami Wibben scored nine points in the win. Jadan Brumbaugh scored eight points. Tralyn Kratofil scored six. Clare Chnitker and Regan Seberg had four apiece and the trio of Monroe Swain, Amaya Gillespie and Hannah Hoyle each scored two.
The ?C? team was tied 2-2 after one quarter but took an 8-4 lead into halftime. The Panthers led 16-10 after the third quarter and held off a Bulldog rally to score a two-point win. This was the first game for the ?C? team this year.
Melayne Olivas and Tristen Davis scored six points apiece to lead the ?C? team. Jenna Smith scored four points and Rylie Pope had two.
