MP boys? track and field wins in Washington, girls get second

WASHINGTON ? The Mt. Pleasant track and field teams were back up and running in Washington on Thursday night as part of the Demon Co-ed Relays. The boys? team won the event with 192 points, and the Panther girls were second with 126 points, falling only to Iowa City High (130 points).

Winfield-Mt. Union placed sixth in the boys? standings, scoring 51.5 points. WACO was right behind them with 43 points for seventh. The WACO girls were also in action, scoring 15 points to finish 12th.

The Mt. Pleasant teams combined for 12 wins on the night, nine of which went to the boys? squad.

The boys? sprint medley team of Khang Truong, Cole Burns, William Copeland and Jake Lowe took first with a final time of 1:38.62. Cody Mertens followed them with a win in the 3200-meter run, crossing the tape at 9:49.51.

The first win from the Panther girls came from the 4X800 team of Maggie Cristoforo, Cristina Carthey, Maggie Jennings and Taylor Murray. They crossed the finish line in 10:19.14.

The boys? shuttle hurdle team of Keegan Rich, Chase Lamm, Burns and Konnor Peterson won in 59.08 seconds. The boys? 4X200 team of Rich, Lowe, Rylan Seberg and Copeland finished first in 1:34.46 seconds.

The Panther girls took first and second in the 100-meter hurdles. Serenity Keomanivong won the race in 17.08 seconds, and Maddie Williamson was behind her, finishing second place in 17.83 seconds.

The Mt. Pleasant boys matched the girls with a one-two finish in the 110-meter high hurdles. Cole Burns won in 15.25 seconds and Chase Lamm finished second in 15.06 seconds.

Kyle Vanderham won the boys? 800-meter run in 2:06.15. The boys? 4X100 team of Rich, Lowe, Truong and Burns won in 45.08 seconds.

The Panthers won three field events. Tristan Dirth won the discus with a throw of 143-04. Keegan Rich and Rylan Seberg went one-two in the long jump, leaping 21-08.75 and 20-00 respectively. Lexie Magnani took the girls? shot put, hurling a 37-03.

W-MU sprinter Brandon Snowden won both dashes. He took the 100-meter dash in 11.55 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.77 seconds. WACO?s Colton Horak finished second in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 24.14 seconds.

The Panther girls will be back in action on Tuesday, April 10 in a meet at Tipton. That meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Panther boys will be at home on April 12 for the Denny White Relays, which begin at 4:30 p.m.
