MP boys? tennis team nips FM, girls fall

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams split in Southeast Conference play against Ft. Madison on Friday, April 27. The boys? team won a tight 5-4 game at home and the girls were defeated 9-0 on the road.

The Panther boys took the advantage with a 4-2 record in singles play, including wins in both the top two matches. No. 1 Ethan Weber won his match 8-1 and Corbin took the No. 2 match 8-3.

Elijah Plooster gave the Panthers a win in the No. 4 match, winning 8-6. David Nguyen made his varsity debut at No. 6 and won his match 8-4. Jaxon Hoyle fell 8-3 in the No. 3 match and Jack Schimmfelpfennig dropped the No. 5 match 8-3.

The Panthers clinched the win by winning the No. 2 doubles match.The team of Weber and Schmmelpfennig won their match 8-4. The No. 1 squad of Broeker and Hoyle fell 8-3, and the No. 3 team of Plooster and Donny Arledge dropped their match 9-8(2).

Arledge picked up an 8-2 win in junior varsity singles. Cole Kelgord won a JV match 8-6.

The girls? team went 0-6 in singles matches. Quin Whaley fell in a tight No. 1 match 8-6. Erin Zihlman lost 8-0 in the No. 2 match. Hallie Sandeen fell 8-0 in the No. 3 match and Shaleen Thiengmany also fell 8-0 in the No. 4 match.

Sierra Barton dropped the No. 5 match in a nail-biter, 8-6. Breanna Runyon lost the No. 6 match 8-1.

In doubles play, the team of Whaley and Zihlman fell 8-2 in the No. 1 match. The team of Sandeen and Thiengmany also fell, 8-1, in the No. 2 match, and the No. 3 team of Barton and Runyon dropped their game 8-0.

Madecyn Anderson picked up a 4-1 win in junior varsity play. Maggie Fitzpatrick lost her JV game 4-0. The doubles team of Anderson and Elle Larson won 4-1, and the duo of Mikayla Ackles and Fitzpatrick swept their game 4-0.
