BURLINGTON ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? soccer team lost a tough 2-1 non-conference game against future Southeast Conference foe Burlington on Tuesady night. The Panthers controlled the ball most of the game but couldn?t capitalize on their opportunities.
Burlington scored their first goal on a penalty kick with 22:35 left, getting the opporutnity on a handball call in the box. That was the lone goal of the half and the Grayhounds led 1-0 at the break.
Burlington scored to make it 2-0 at the 34:59 mark to put the Panthers down 2-0 with just five minutes remaining. Thirty seconds later, however, Paris Chounlamany picked up a header goal off an assist from Cade Warner.
Mt. Pleasant put the pressure on Burlington in the last four and a half minutes, but couldn?t put the tying goal in the net.
The junior varsity team won 2-0. Oscar Vasquez-Lopez scored from a corner kick in the first half and Mason Pounsavan scored in the second half off an assist by Logan White. JV keeper Logan Lee recorded a shutout.
The Panthers fell to 6-3 overall this season with the loss. They?ll put their 4-2 conference record on the line on Friday, May 4, when they take on Ft. Madison at 7 p.m., on the road.
