MT. VERNON ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? track and field team ran at the Demon Indoors on Friday night. The Panthers had one win on the night, and seven top-10 finishes in a field that sported some of the top teams from around the state.
The lone win for Mt. Pleasant went to Cody Mertens, who added a 1600-meter win to his season after winning the 3200 in the Panthers? last meet. Mertens ran a 4:41.72 to pick up the 1600-meter victory. Dalton Moyle finished 25th in that event, crossing in 5:05.15, to give the Panthers two names in the top 25.
Tristin Dirth had the top result for the Panthers in the field events. He leaped a 18-05.75 in the long jump to take home a third-place finish.
Two Panthers had top-six finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Cole Burns placed fifth, in 8.85 seconds, and Chase Lamm was right behind him in 6th, in 8.87 seconds.
Two Mt. Pleasant relay teams finished in eighth place. The 4X400 team of Tate Shull, Lamm, Hoang Mai and Seberg finished in 3:48.85, and the distance medley team of Burns, Will Copeland, Drake Woody and Bowen Gryp finished in 3:59.08.
Two Panthers finished top-15 in the 200-meter dash. Seberg finished 10th in 24.60 seconds, and Shull placed 15th, in 24.75 seconds.
Khang Truong finished 11th in the 60-meter dash, finishing the race in 7.50 seconds. Konnor Peterson finished 19th in the 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in 59.07 seconds.
The 4X800 team of Jaden Davis, Dakota Triska, Drake Snavely and Thad Brooks placed 25th. They finished in 9:35.16.
The Panther boys? track team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 13. The Panthers will be at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center at Iowa State University in Ames. That meet will begin at 3 p.m.
The girls? team will be in Ames today (Monday) for their meet. The Panther girls will also begin at 3 p.m.
