Mrs. Lance, the former Myrna Joan Flayharty, was born December 8, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa. She was the daughter of Delbert Leo and Henrietta Mable Lee (Henessee) Flayharty. She was raised in New London and graduated from New London High School in 1962. On April 18, 1970 in Kahoka, Mo., Joan was united in marriage to Harold Lance.

For five years, Joan was employed at the I.A.A.P. in Middletown. She then did housecleaning for several homes until she retired.

Joan was raised in the Methodist faith, but attended churches of many denominations. She enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles and music of all types, mostly country gospel. In later years, she did bible study until her eyesight failed. After that, Joan very much enjoyed hearing books on tape.

Those thankful for sharing in Joan's life include her husband, Harold of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Ken Simmons of New London; three sisters: Carol Bunkley of Santa Rose Beach, Fla., Connie Terrance and her husband Darrell of New London and Beverly Meyerholz of Wapello, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many other friends and relatives who will fondly remember Joan and miss her dearly.

Her parents precede her in death.
