A missing juvenile girl was taken into custody by the Juvenile Courts after allegedly stealing her mother?s car, a golf cart from the Old Thresher?s grounds and finally a truck. Officers followed the string of robberies for three days before locating the girl in Coralville, where she was arrested.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle report on Saturday, July 14 at noon in the 400 block of E. Washington Street in Mt. Pleasant. The vehicle was later located in Burlington.
At approximately 7:44 p.m., a driving complaint for erratic actions was called in. The vehicle, a 1999 Cadillac, stolen earlier that day as well, drove off at a high rate of speed and struck a street sign, a section of fence and another vehicle, which was legally parked in the 300 block of S. Walnut Street. The male suspect jumped out while the vehicle was moving and fled the scene.
The daughter of the stolen vehicle was reported missing and believed to have stolen the car as well. The juvenile was not located at the scene.
On Sunday, July 15, officers responded to a golf cart that had appeared in the 500 block of S. Jackson Street. It was determined that the golf cart had been stolen from the Old Thresher?s grounds. During an investigation, the missing girl was observed by officers in the area with two other juvenile males. They took off running from officers. One was eventually caught, but denied knowing anything about the golf cart.
While conducting the interview there, another victim came up and advised that the missing girl had been in his car and was backing it down the street, and he was now missing items from his car. He identified the suspect as the girl.
Monday, July 16, it was determined that a truck stolen from Mt. Pleasant was at a residence in Coralville with a relative of the missing girl. Coralville police officers responded and located the missing girl along with another missing juvenile male.
The female admitted to the theft of the golf cart, truck and her mother?s car.
Both the juveniles were taken into custody by the Juvenile Courts. The female was charged with second and thrid-degree theft. She was transported to the Juvenile Detention facility. More charges are pending and more arrest are expected.

This investigation was successful partially as a result of concerned citizens assisting by calling in suspicious activity. Mt. Pleasant Police continue to urge citizens to call in any suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agencies.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
