The Iowa Wesleyan men?s soccer team was finally able to finish a game on Sunday, they just had to return home to Mt. Pleasant to do it.
The Tigers defeated Coe College 4-1 in their home opener at East Lake Park. That win came four days after a 1-1 tie in another weather-shortened game at Hannibal La-Grange University.
The Tigers showed their strength early and often. IW dominated the field position game in the first half and ended up getting two goals out of it. Mariano Mateo scored on break through with 14:24 left, and Fabian Arvizu made it 2-0 on a goal with 21:36 showing on the clock.
The Tigers continued to put the pressure on early in the second half. Carlos Mateo made it 3-0 less than six minutes into the period off a rebound. Jose Baldo picked up an assist.
There was an over 18-minute scoring drought until the next goal of the game. IW went up 4-0 with a goal by Francisco Saldana.
Coe?s Jordan Webb ended the shutout bid with a goal six minutes later, but the Tigers still got out with a comfortable three-score win.
