Auburndale, Fla. ? The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team couldn?t contain a dangerous St. Scholastica offense on Monday when the Tigers and Saints met up for a doubleheader as part of IW?S Florida trip.
The Saints topped IW 5-0 in the first game and then exploded in the second game to knock off the Tigers 13-2 and bump IW back to a .500 record.
Starting pitcher Austin Christian had a decent outing in the first game, going all six innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks, while striking out three batters. The Tiger offense didn?t give Christian any run support however, collecting just three hits on the game.
IW opened the scoring in the second game with an RBI single from Tyler Cooksey in the first inning. After a three-run second for the Saints, IW responded with an RBI groundout from Parker Leland in the third to cut the lead to 3-2.
St. Scholastica scored three runs in the fourth inning to stretch their advantage to 6-2. The Saints tacked on two in the sixth and five in the seventh to eventually walk out with an 11-run win.
IW fell to 5-5 with the loss. They are playing Uita College this morning (Wednesday). That doubleheader began at 8 a.m.
