Irvin L. Jerrel, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at his home.
Irvin was born on December 16, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Irvin L. and Phyllis Schroeder Jerrel. He was united in marriage to Betty Smith on February 2, 1962, at the Methodist Chapel in New London. Irvin was an avid outdoorsman: he loved hunting, fishing, spending time on the Skunk River. Irvin enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes but most of all spending time with his family. He was a master carpenter and had worked for Nelson Contracting. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Mt. Pleasant; his children: Dawn (Andrew) Avery of Lexington, Tenn. and Kimberly (Walt Osier) Bessine of West Burlington; three grandchildren: Adam (Brittney) Avery, Brandon Bessine and Justin Bessine; and two great-grandchildren: Emma and Ethan.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Stewart.
Memorial services were held on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Oakland Mills Community Church with Pastor Andrew Avery and Jim McDowell officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Oakland Mills Community Church or to the American Heart Association in his memory. Cremation has been entrusted to the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
