MONMOUTH, Ill. ? Iowa Wesleyan returned to action after hosting a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference triangular over the weekend. In Tuesday night?s match, the Tigers took on Monmouth College in a non-conference contest in Monmouth, Ill.
After a first set loss, the Tigers bounced back in set two, but the Fighting Scots would win the final two sets to defeat IW 3-1.
The Tigers opened the night with eight kills, five less than their opponent, in the opening set. Monmouth took a 1-0 lead with a 25-17 win in set one. They bounced back with eleven kills in each of the second and third sets. Iowa Wesleyan evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-15 set two win.
The 11 kills in the third set unfortunately did not translate to a win for Iowa Wesleyan as they fell behind 2-1 with a 25-19 loss to the Fighting Scots. Monmouth?s offensive attack took control in the fourth set, converting 15 kills compared to IW?s seven kills in the set. Iowa Wesleyan did not help their cause against the Fighting Scots. The Tigers committed 22 attack errors and nine service errors in the loss.
Lida Landre finished with 10 kills to lead the team, while Sydney Ellsworth added nine kills for the Tigers. Cass Schwamborn had a team high 21 digs, and Ariel Smale had thirteen assists.
Iowa Wesleyan will host Eureka College on Thursday, Sept. 13. The SLIAC matchup is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Ruble Arena. The Tigers are now 1-7 overall are 0-2 in conference play.
