Iowa Wesleyan soccer underway

The Iowa Wesleyan soccer teams each took the field for the first time this fall over the weekend. The Tiger men went 1-1 in two games and the women fell in their only contest.

The Tigers men had a weather-aided win at Central College. IW trailed 2-1 in the game on Saturday, but the contest was rained out and they had to completely start over the next day.

On Sunday, the Tigers flipped the script, beating Central 2-1 in overtime. Fabian Arvizu scored in the first half, putting in a rebound off the crossbar. Central tied the game late in the second half, but Mariano Mateo sent one in off the left post in overtime to give IW the win.

The weather went against the Tigers on Monday when the game was called early. IW trailed 2-1 at Mt. Mercy after cutting the lead in half on a Mustang own goal at the end of the first half. The game had to be called midway through the second half, which gave the Tigers a premature loss.

The Tiger women fell 7-4 against Alverno on Sunday. Emmy Rodriguez had a hat-trick in that game, scoring two goals in the first half and one in the second. Rodriguez? first goal gave the Tigers the lead at 1-0, but it was the only lead they had all day.

IW also had one goal from Grace Alongi.
