JACKSONVILLE, Ill. ? The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team went 2-1 over the weekend against Lawrence University. The Tigers took games 7-5 and 26-24 but fell in the final game 10-7. The teams were originally scheduled to play four games, but one was rained out.
The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning, one in the fifth and three in the seventh during their 7-5 win on Saturday. Lawrence scored two in the fourth and rallied for three in the seventh before falling two-runs short.
Cody Brown picked up the win for IW. He threw 6.2 innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out six batters. Mitchell Wilcox came in to get the one-out save.
Chazz Brown and Parker Leland each went 2-4 for the Tigers. Brown had one RBI and two runs scored, and Leland finished with one TBI and one run scored. Thomas Yancey, Alex Payne and Matthew Murphy each had one RBI in the win.
Game two was a wild one on Sunday morning. IW led 9-5 after one inning and 10-8 after three. The two teams were tied 12-12 at the end of five innings and Lawrence led 16-15 after six.
IW scored eight runs in the seventh inning. Joseph Belarde hit a grand slam to open the scoring and the Tigers seemingly blew it open when they brought the score to 23-16. Belarde went deep twice in the game, hitting a two-run shot in the sixth before his seventh inning bomb.
