Holly Wagner, 97, of Danville, died April 20, 2018. He was born April 11, 1921, to Charlie and Blanche Sater Wagner. He graduated from Danville High School, Burlington Junior College, and Iowa Wesleyan College. August 18, 1945 he married Kay Carlson in Mt. Union.
Holly farmed, worked at the Ordance Plant and carried mail. He was a Danville councilman and mayor, Des Moines County Conservation Board, member of Danville United Methodist Church, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Long Creek Conservation Club, American Quarter Horse Association and National and Iowa Wildlife Federations. Holly and Kay were honored as Iowans of the Day at the 2005 Iowa State Fair. He was a Hawkeyes and Cardinals fan.
Survivors include children, Pam Day, Carlisle; Mark Wagner , San Diego; and Jill Bowers, Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister.
The service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Dean Graber officiating; burial following at Jaggar Cemetery. Visitation begins at noon Tuesday with the family present from 5:00-7:00.
