The Mt. Pleasant freshman boys? basketball team is on a three-game winning streak and all three games have been all Panthers. The MP ninth-graders smoked Ft. Madison 71-16 on Dec. 15, pulled past Washington 50-31 on Jan.5 and topped Mediapolis 50-16 on Monday for their third straight win.
The win over Ft. Madison was on the back of a shut-down defensive effort. The Panthers held the Bloodhounds to just two points in the first quarter and shut them out in the second to take a 43-2 lead into the break. It was smooth sailing from that point on as they picked up a 55-point win.
Drake Snavely led the team with 12 points against Ft. Madison. Mason Mills had 10. Chase Williamson, Jack Johnson and Mitch Moothart scored nine each. Sawyer Carrasco had six. Jaxon Glaha had five. Brevin Wilson and Jack Schimmelpfennig scored four each. Avery Scandridge had two and Joe Holtkamp scored one.
Washington put up the best fight of the three teams. Mt. Pleasant led 18-13 after one quarter but the Demons cut the lead to 23-19 at halftime. The Panthers pulled away in the second half, however, besting the Demons 13-8 in the third and 14-4 in the fourth.
Johnson went off for 17 points in the win over Washington. Wilson had 14. Williamson scored seven. Moothart had four. Schimmelpfennig, Scandridge, Carrasco and Tyson Sysouchah finished with two each.
The Panthers had another killer defensive performance against Mediapolis on Monday. They outscored the Bulldogs 21-2 in the first quarter and took a 36-9 lead into the half. Once again it was all Mt. Pleasant from that point forward as the Panthers picked up a 34-point win.
Williamson had 16 points in Monday?s win. Wilson scored 14. Johnson had 12. Glaha, Sysouchah, Schimmelpfennig and Aaron Wilson all scored two.
