Fire chief retiring after 52 years with department

By Grace King, Mt. Pleasant News

After 52 years with the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, Chief Stewart Kinney is retiring effective Sept. 30.

Mayor Steve Brimhall accepted Kinney?s resignation ?with regret,? adding that hopefully the city can organize something at a later date to honor his years of service.

The rest of the city council meeting was brief Wednesday, July 25, as the council approved mayoral appointments to the Construction Appeals Board and the Library Board.

Mary Moon was reappointed to a three-year term on the Construction Appeals Board.

Alisha Iserman was appointed to a six-year term on the Library Board. Iserman has previously worked for the library. She is taking the place of Carrie Muhs, who requested not to be reappointed.

In other news, Brimhall mentioned the many construction projects across the city, saying that everything seems to be moving, but not at as fast a pace as people would like to see in some places.

With August just around the corner, however, the Mapleleaf parking lot project is drawing to a close. The parking lot is scheduled to be completed by the first part of August for back-to-school.

The next Mt. Pleasant City Council meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 8.
