Find rest

Have you felt overwhelmed? Stressed? Or like your shoulders are weighed down by the busyness of life?

This morning after having a successfully busy week, I felt it. I have been so busy this week, I haven?t spent the time I need to with my boys or wife because, ?Daddy is working.? I have heard of individuals who put their careers, ministry or even hobbies above their family. They are so concerned with climbing the corporate ladder that they sacrifice time with their family for this level of achievement. Outwardly successfully, inwardly failing as a spouse and/or parent.

We as people weren?t created to operate in our own strength. In fact, after God created everything including ?man,? He rested. One of the first lessons God taught Adam (The man God created), was rest. Adam had a lot of work to accomplish but his first lesson was to operate out of rest.

Rest is vital to our health. Most people work to rest, instead of operating and working out of rest.

When I felt overwhelmed this morning, I drove out to East Lake Park, sat on the swinging bench and just enjoyed God?s creation and took about 15 minutes out of my morning just to rest in God and spend time with Him. Afterward, my day started wonderfully.

Matthew 11:28-30 says,

?Then Jesus said, ?Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.?

If you are feeling weary or overwhelmed, I would encourage you, turn to God. He will give you rest.

I have found honoring the Sabbath, and taking one day out of the week to just rest, not work, spend all day with my family and spend time with the Lord has rejuvenated me. I desire to operate out of rest not operate to rest, and we can only find that rest in Jesus. Today I invite you to find your rest in Him.
