To the readers:
First of all, I would like to thank those who take the time to write a letter to the editor. We do read each and every one of them.
In regards to the above letter, I would like to say a few words. First, the aforementioned article appeared in The News on Wednesday, April 13.
As editor, I am proud of the work that each of my reporters does. We have worked very hard as a team to make sure our work is creditable and timely. Since taking over as editor, The News features more local front page news, more features and less wire stories.
After receiving Mr. Chapman?s letter, I reread the article mentioned and I do wish we had reached out for another opinion and had reworded some phrases. I take responsibility for this, as nothing is printed without my approval.
However, I think this has been a very valuable learning experience. Half of our staff is still green and newly out of the gate and I like to think of our paper as a great learning environment for reporters new and old. We strive every day to ?get it right? and on the occasion that we don?t, I like to think we take my dad?s advice and ?learn from it and move forward.?
I can say for myself, and I?m sure my staff would agree, we are better reporters today then we were yesterday and tomorrow we will be better than we are today.
