Iowa State Patrol responded to a head-on collision on 220th St. on Monday, Jan. 22, around 8:45 a.m.
Camden Linkin, 18, was traveling eastbound on 220th St. when he drifted over the centerline, striking Valerie Harmon, 66, in a white minivan, who was traveling westbound.
Harmon?s 2011 Chrysler minivan landed in the ditch, while the front end of Linkin?s 2007 Ford Focus was shattered.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Herb Wester said the accident could have been a lot worse. At the scene, both drivers were talking and neither was more injured than the other.
?Any time you have a head-on crash like this, you can have more serious or fatal injuries,? Wester said. ?Both drivers had on their seat belts and both air bags deployed.?
Both drivers were transported to Great River Health Systems in Burlington. Linkin is of Mt. Union and Harmon is of Mediapolis.
Traffic was delayed about an hour as a crew worked to clean up the wreckage. The accident remains under investigation.
