Driver loses control, vehicle strikes house

Mt. Pleasant policemen were dispatched to 401 N. Broadway shortly before 7 a.m. Nov. 4 to investigate a report of a vehicle striking a residence.

Upon arrival, police learned the vehicle had left the scene of the accident.

An investigation revealed that a 2004 Pontiac minivan, owned by Christina Barron and operated by Carlos Castro of Mt. Pleasant, was traveling northbound on Broadway when the vehicle turned left and left the roadway. The vehicle traveled through the front yard of a residence at 401 N. Broadway and struck the southeast corner of the house.

Damage to the house was confined to exterior masonry and structural damage to the interior of the home. Total monetary damage to the house is unknown at this time.

Castro and the vehicle soon were located at 208 S. Jefferson St. Damage to the Barron vehicle was estimated at $10,000 and the vehicle was considered a total loss.

Castro was transported to the Henry County Health Center by the Henry County Ambulance. He was charged with failure to have a valid driver?s license and failure to maintain control.
