No one was home Monday evening when an in-home day care facility in Mt. Pleasant erupted in fire.
The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 301 W. Henry St., around 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 2. The home, which police officers confirmed was used as an in-home day care center, was empty at the time of the fire.
?The fire department did a good job once on scene,? said Sgt. Marc McConnell. ?There were flames coming out of two or three of the windows when I arrived.?
Less than an hour on scene and the fire department had the blaze under control. Neighbors congregated around the block, watching as the home smoldered as fire crews continued to work the scene. From the street corner, immense damage to the interior of the home could be seen.
Dennis Ebersole, of Steffes Group, was also on scene. The home had been listed with the real estate agency and, according to Ebersole, had recently sold, although the previous owners had not moved out yet.
At the time of press the cause of the fire still is unknown.
