Crews respond to house fire in rural Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a house fire in rural Mt. Pleasant Tuesday afternoon.


At approximatley 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was dispatched to 1743 Oakland Mills Road for a house fire. Two fire trucks were initially dispached, with a third called to the scene later.


Smoke could be seen billowing from the back of the home from Oakland Mills Road. Fire crews were seen entering the home from the deck of the second story of the home.


Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief Stewart Kinney said everyone got out of the house with no injuries. The fire was contained mostly to the upper story and the lower portion of the house is stable. Kinney said the police department was on site for three hours working to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.


The home is listed as being owned by Todd Smith and Renee Lauer, according to Beacon. The home sits on 1.16 acres of land. Horses in the pasture surrounding the home huddled near the northeast corner of the fence on high alert, trying to get upwind of the smoke.


The homeowners arrived shortly after the fire crews.
