The United Church Women met Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at the home of Wilma McAllister with 11 in attendance.
McAllister gave the meditation, ?What the New Year Will Hold: Only The All-knowing God Knows. Only by God can we live successfully.?
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison.
Cathy Williams, Secretary Pro-tem, read the minutes of the Dec. 12, 2017, meeting, and they were approved as read.
The treasurer?s report was given by Treasurer Pat Miller and will be filed for audit.
Thank You notes were read from those receiving holiday boxes and also one from a family that was served lunch following funeral services. Other thank you?s were from quilts that had been distributed with the Christmas Back Packs.
In committee reports, it was reported some new items had been purchased for the kitchen.
Williams reported sending mail orders to service people affiliated with the church.
McAllister discussed plans for the coming year and said those organizations and people receiving quilts were very appreciative. Donna Fletcher continues to make T-shirt dresses and curtains as mission projects.
Pauline Richardson reviewed the 2018 UCW Program Book. Work committees are still needed in June and October.
The regular offering and Least Coin offering were taken and the Fellowship of the Least Coin was read together.
The Prayer Calendar item was for the Democratic Republic of West Congo, focusing on the development of leaders of the future.
Call to Prayer and Self-Denial was presented by Clarissa Malmberg. The project is to develop leaders for the Kin-dom. The three goals are Relativity, Community and Equity.
Pat Miller brought attention to the projects the group has participated and supported financially.
The next regular meeting is March 2, at 1:30 p.m. March 2 is also World Day of Prayer. Program leaders will be the Study and Devotions/Mission Committee. Hostesses are Williams and Richardson. Invitations will be sent to the Ainsworth Community Church.
Dorcas is meeting Monday, Jan. 22, Feb. 12 and 26, and March 12 and 26, and April 9.
January: Ann Lewis and Tammy Lowe are scheduled for the January work committee; Deb Lowe and Pat Miller are scheduled for February; Cathy Williams and Ann Lewis are scheduled for March; and Pat Miller and Clarissa Malmberg are scheduled in April.
The Spring Rummage Sale will be April 26, 27 and 28. Cathy Williams, Donna Fletcher and Carol Steele are on the rummage sale committee.
In other news, Marshal Rose, former Crawfordsville resident, now of the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, will be celebrating his 90th birthday on Friday, Feb. 2. The family is having a card shower for him. His address is 1203 E. Washington St., Washington, IA 52353.
