County signs business associate agreement with ICTS

In keeping with HIPAA standards, the Henry County Board of Supervisors signed a business associate agreement with Iowa County Technology Services during their meeting on Tuesday, June 19.

Coordinator of Disability Services Sarah Berndt said that the Iowa State Association of Counties wants counties using Iowa County Technology Services (ICTS) to have a business associate agreement saying the county expects ICTS to treat medical records correctly because they bear the same burden as the county regarding HIPAA.

?We used to hang our hat on the fact that we?re an entity within itself, so we didn?t need an agreement, but (Iowa State Association of Counties) is doing for the region and counties things they could do for themselves,? Berndt explained to Supervisors.

Henry County pays dues to ICTS to keep the county?s electronic medical records. The region is trying to use it as a paperless record, Berndt said.

Supervisors also approved a funding agreement with the Fellowship Cup for $500 a month. While the agreement already stood unofficially, the money is to benefit their food pantry and pay for their annual membership to Food Bank of Southern Iowa.

In other news, the Henry County Engineer Department was busy last week with repairing crossroad pipes, cleaning up weeds around guardrails and mowing gravel road shoulders.

Territory operators started shoulder pulling at Merrimac Road Monday, June 11, hauling rock later throughout the week and working on a tile problem and mailbox.

Cedar Falls Construction Co. worked on Racine Ave. and Oasis Ave. last week. Wrapping up work this week, they will move down to Goodyear Road and patch for two days, weather dependent.
