Bernice E. Nichting, 94, of Houghton passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the Henry County Health Center.
She was born on December 15, 1923, at the family home, the daughter of Henry and Rose Mehmert Lampe. Bernice was united in marriage to Bernard J. Nichting on May 15, 1946, in the basement of St. John High School in Houghton; he preceded her in death on February 24, 2003. Bernice helped her husband on the family farm, polka music, square dancing, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Houghton.
She is survived by five daughters: Betty (Mike) Perrenoud, of Houghton, Diane (Jim) Klesner, of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy (Mike) Meyer of West Point, Mary (Rich) Sieck of Toddville, Margie (Jim) Harvey of Neenah, Wis.; four sons: Gary (LouAnn) Nichting of Mt. Pleasant, Clarence (Leisha) Nichting of Mt. Pleasant, Jim (Sandra) Nichting of Salem and Steve (Cindy) Nichting of Salem; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Adrian (Barb) Lampe of Mt. Pleasant.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Eric Perrenoud; two sisters; and seven brothers.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Houghton with Rev. Fr. Bruce DeRammelaere officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic Church or Salem Fire and Rescue Association Incorporated.
