Arthur Garrison Rawlings, 64, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away June 8, 2018 after an extended illness. His wife, Becki, was at his side.
Art was born in Mt. Pleasant on November 10, 1953 to Russell and Eleanor (Breuer) Rawlings. He graduated from MPHS in 1972. He graduated from ISU in 1977 with a degree in Industrial Education.
He married Becki Dimas on May 1, 1980. They had no children but he adored his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, and they adored him. Art was known as "Tuffy" growing up, but he was the kindest man you ever met.
He was employed for the past 40 years by Fire Prevention and Engineering Bureau of Texas, later bought out by Verisk Insurance ISO Services, where he inspected and determined the fire ratings of cities.
Art spent his spare time working on his 1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible, and entering it in car shows, barbecuing, golfing and the beach. He and Becki never met a stranger.
His favorite time of year was coming home in September to spend the week of Old Threshers, and in November when family would join him and Becki in New Braunfels, Texas for "Worstfest".
He is survived by his wife; seven sisters and two brothers: Becky (Dale) Calhoun, Bobbi (Dan) Bruggemeyer, Tink (John) Parrott of Mt. Pleasant; Scotti (Jeff) Nesbitt of Burlington, N.C.; twin sister, Dell (Ken) Madole of North Liberty, Iowa; Rosie Dopler, Mike Askew, Gil (Connie) Rheinschmidt, Lee (Marthe) Rheinschmidt all of Burlington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
