Winter sports will finally kick off tonight (Monday) as the area?s girls? basketball teams gather for the 11th Annual Iowa Wesleyan University High School Jamboree.
All four of the area?s high school girls? teams will be in action on the night. Five total games will take place.
Each game will be just one half long, and there will be a 10-minute intermission in between.
The night will start off at 6 p.m., with the only game not including a Henry County squad. Danville and Wapello, both of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, will tip off first.
WACO will be the first of the county?s teams to be in action. The Warriors, which finished last season 7-15, will take on West Burlington in a battle of SEISC South Division teams. WACO was 2-0 against the Falcons last year. That game will begin at 6:40 p.m.
Winfield-Mt. Union will take on Keokuk in the first of three matchups between SEISC and SEC teams. The Wolves are coming off a 7-16 season, and will have their hands full with a Keokuk team which ended last season in a regional final after making state in 2015. That showdown will tip off at 7:20 p.m.
The next two games will mark the debut of a couple new head coaches. New London, which finished 9-12 last season, will take on Ft. Madison at 8 p.m. David Streeter, the Mt. Pleasant volleyball coach, has taken the helm for Tiger girls? basketball this season.
Mt. Pleasant will be unveiled at 8:40 p.m., against Columbus Community. The Panthers, which finished 13-10 last season, will be in action for the first time under new head coach Curt Watson.
Today also marks the first day of boys? basketball practice, as we move closer and closer to the start of official games.
